End of the semester wrap-up

The Good:

-I have successfully maintained my weight this semester, despite my eating habits being...less than good. I will get back on track next semester.
-
Making new friends.
-The new Spotify for Facebook app. So much new music...I love it!!
-Passing all my classes and successfully entering into the 2nd half of senior year. Yikes. Am I really almost done with college?
-
This song in particular:

The Bad:
-Having some of the worst final project groups ever. Dear professors: this is why you should let your students pick their own groups...
-
Talking to a guy for 3 weeks, and then having him start ignoring me. Because that's SUCH a mature way to act...

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

And this is what happens when the semester starts...

...I don't blog!! Sorry guys. I have more group projects this semester than ever. It's so crazy!!

Until I can get back on a regular blogging schedule...please enjoy some of my recent favorite songs, workout and otherwise. ;)

Brooke Fraser - "Deciphering Me" and "Something in the Water"

Kim Walker-Smith/Chris Quilala/Jesus Culture - "Your Love Never Fails" and "Happy Day"

Take a listen, add them to your own playlist if you like them...

I heart.

So I'm kind of in love with this song...

Artist: Hillsong United
Song: Solution
Album: All of the Above

I've seen these guys live. They really rock it!!! :D I highly recommend their music for workouts or just driving on the highway with the windows rolled down...yeah, it's that good. :)

The title is related to these guys too. Google "I heart revolution". It's a great cause.

Some people try way too hard. Don't be one of those people.

Don't ask. I just felt like posting that. ;)

Post inspired by GML.

If you haven't read Gracie's latest post...oh my goodness, you HAVE to!!

I laughed at #1 and #3, just because that seems to be what guys like to say to me.

"We should go out/hang out sometime!" Sounds good! When? "Oh, I don't know...sometime soon..." Annnnd it's not gonna happen.

"Call/text me sometime!" He's really saying: I'm too lazy/chicken to make the first move myself.

And now...for a few of my own additions to Gracie's list...

"You're like my sister!" Friend-zone. Duly noted.

"I didn't really consider it a date, per se...." Then why did you ask me and then pay for everything, fool?

"Well, other girls I've dated have gone this far with me..." You know I'm TLW, is that going to be a problem? "Nooo...it's just different, that's all...I have to get used to it!" Translation: he has a problem with it and will be gone in 3, 2, 1...

"Hey cutie, what's going on?" It's midnight. It's a weeknight. I'm going to sleep. What do you think is going on?

"I had a few drinks..." You're drunk. And you just drunk texted me. That's no bueno on EVERY level!

What kind of lines have guys tried to throw at you? Any of you have similar experiences to me/Gracie?

The music blog, part 3!

Don't worry, I'm not turning this into a music blog. However, I do love music, and it's an important part of my workout. I have 2 more songs that y'all might like to add to your workout playlists. They're extremely catchy and fun to sing along to!!

Now, on to something not music-related. One of my friends and I decided to hit Target yesterday. We found some GREAT sales on workout gear - C9 by Champion running shorts are running between $10-$15! Of course, we stocked up. If you need workout gear, I'd make a trip over to Target and take advantage of the sales!!

Stuck in my head.

Raise your hand if you thought you'd never like rap/hip-hop music.

*raises hand*

*looks around*

I can't possibly be the only one! Come on now. ;)

Well, if you raised your hand like I did, check out the song below. I heard this a couple weeks ago and I absolutely LOVE it. It's also fantastic to power walk/run to.

Long overdue.

WOW. I definitely meant to post sooner than this. Who knew that a part-time internship would actually make your summer busy?? Ha, ha. I love it though - I'm working with a great bunch of people and learning a lot!!

I added several new songs to my workout playlist, so I'll start off by sharing those:

1. "Like A Lion" - David Crowder Band (this is great for warm-ups!)
2. "Awake and Alive" - Skillet (I love singing along to this one)
3. "Best Kept Secret" - Skillet
4. "Make Your Move" - Third Day
5. "Must Have Done Something Right" - Relient K
6. "Monster" - Skillet (This is what I call "sweat music". Always motivates me to push it a little farther)
7. "Funky Jesus Music" - tobyMac
8. "Cross the Line" - Superchic[k]
9. "Alive" - Superchic[k]

Well, I am off! I'm gonna work out, and then get ready to hang with some of my favorite people tonight!! I'm super excited. :)

Oh hey summer, what's up?!

I. Am. DONE!!!! (For now.)

Maybe now I can get back to being a good blogger, at least until classes start again in the fall. ;)

I'm going to enjoy my first weekend of summer with a few of my faves, and then I'll have a real post next week!!

Schoolchurchfriendsbusy!

I know, I know. I'm a bad blogger. But if you had the amount of schoolwork I had, you'd totally understand!! Haha. I've also recently started volunteering at my church, so that's eating up some time as well. I don't mind, though. I've made some truly AMAZING friends and I really enjoy what I'm doing. To make up for my lack of blogging, here are some of my recent favorite workout songs:

Artist: Jesus Culture (feat. Kim Walker) Song: We Cry Out Album: We Cry Out (2008)

Artist: TobyMac feat. John Cooper Song: Tonight Album: Tonight (2010)

Happy Friday!! I hope everyone's had a great week!

My guest post on The Singing Runner is up!! Go check it out if you haven't already! Shameless self promotion. ;) If you're coming over here from TSR, welcome!! Feel free to browse, read, and/or comment. :)

Some of you regular readers may have seen this earlier:
I am still taking outfit/style tips. Haha. The place we're going is casual, so jeans are perfectly acceptable to suggest. :)

100th post!

Good morning all!

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! Mine has been crazy busy, as I expected. I'm back from spring break (Boo!!) so my profs have, of course, been piling on the work.

I've had a few other...uh...interesting things happen this week, but I'll save THAT for a later post. ;)

Workout song of the week:

Artist: TobyMac
Song: Funky Jesus Music
Album: Tonight (2010)

One of my friends introduced me to this song, and even though it's not really my "style" of music, it's been great to exercise to. It has also been stuck in my head for the past 4 days.

Time for class to start!

Short and sweet

Hey bloggies!

I recently had the opportunity to write a guest post for The Singing Runner while she's on her trip to Costa Rica. It's a combination "my workout routine/how to deal with injury" post. Look for it the evening of March 18!

Thanks Katy for letting me write a post for TSR! Stay safe in Costa Rica!

Whoops!

So...I was sure I posted a recap of my first 5K (walk) but I logged on this morning and discovered I didn't!! Lo siento. I feel like I've been going nonstop ever since then. Thankfully I'm on spring break (!!) so I can post my long overdue recap.

First, my playlist (which worked really well to keep me motivated)

Dude why does that always end up so tiny? Sorry y'all!! I tried to make it bigger and it got really blurry!

If anyone can't read that and wants me to type it all out, leave a comment and I'll do it in my next post!

There were a TON of people at the 5K walk. I heard later that there were something like 3,000+, which I really didn't expect!! I got a picture of the starting line but Blogger refuses to size it the way I want it, so take my word for it...there were a TON of people.

I enjoyed my normal breakfast of cereal and yogurt before heading out. When I got to the expo, there was a table giving out mini Larabars, so of course I had one (unpictured). It was the Coconut Cream Pie flavor and it was delicious. I ended up coming back post-race to grab a Cherry Pie Larabar. Also very good.

The weather was absolutely perfect - not too hot, not too cold! The only complaint I had about the course is that they ran out of water stations at the very end. Next time, I'll bring my own water bottle!

Good morning from campus!

How was everyone's weekend? Mine was low-key...studied for a finance exam I have this week (eww), went to church, went shopping...that kind of thing.

Oh, and I finally found this delicious stuff at my local grocery store:

http://www.stonyfield.com/oikos/greek_yogurt/4_oz/chocolate/index.jsp

CHOCOLATE OIKOS!!

It's SO delicious. You have to try it, if you haven't already!! The grocery store also had a big sale on Kashi products, so I have been enjoying my chocolate Oikos on top of Honey Sunshine and Kashi Go Lean Berry Crunch. Ah-mazing. Has anyone tried the caramel flavor yet? I will be picking that up next time!

I still can't smell anything!

Hey guys!

Why haven't I posted? I came down with a cold/flu/virus thing and was out of it all last week. I missed my first day of classes in a semester and a half...and promptly had a professor ask me for a note proving I was sick on the day I came back. Wait...what? Strange. Anyway, I am feeling much better, although I'm still waiting for my sense of smell (and taste, by extension) to come back...

On to more pleasant things: Happy Valentine's Day!! Or, as I read on Facebook this morning: "To my friends in a relationship: Happy Valentine's Day. To my single friends: Happy Singles Awareness Day. To my friends who don't care: Happy Monday."

I think that sums it up nicely. ;)

Longer post later this week!

Saturday, February 5, 2011

Um, wow...just wow. Seriously, one of the best a cappella performances I've ever heard!!

Yes, I know what month it is.
Yes, indeed, that is Christmas music.
But DUDE. It's SO GOOD!

And, of course, it helps that the guy singing it is one of my favorite singers of all time. click and click again

Study face and TAM

Happy Thursday, bloggies! Hope your week has been going great! Mine's been pretty decent - I can't complain. Well, except for the fact that I have 2 quizzes tomorrow...but at least they're quizzes, not tests!

I guess this means I should get off the blog/Twitter/Facebook and actually finish studying? ;)

Something to think about:

http://www.thyroidawarenessmonth.com/ I've dealt with hypothyroidism since middle school, so I was pleased to find out that January is Thyroid Awareness Month. A lot of people don't know what a thyroid is or how important its function is to the body! Take a couple minutes to read up on it.

Random observation of the day:
Why is it that guys really take notice of you when you're sick, in sweats, little to no makeup, glasses, hair pulled back...? Does this only happen to me or can any other girls relate? Personally, I think it's hilarious. :)

I've got a feeling it won't be long...

Well, I've been back in school for 1 week. I've got a pretty good feeling about this semester already, hence this song...

"I've got a feeling that it won't be long...maybe I'm right, maybe I'm wrong..."

Here we go!

Hey bloggies!!

It's back to class for me tomorrow. Fun, right? Haha. The stubborn sinus infection seems to be gone. Thank God for antibiotics! The only downside to the 2nd antibiotic was that I couldn't consume dairy products 6 hours before or 2 hours after I took it. So, as a celebration, 6 hours after I took the last dose, I made a smoothie with *real* milk. ;)

Ingredients:

1 cup 2% milk
1/2 cup frozen blueberries

Small handful of frozen strawberries
Small handful of frozen broccoli
1 tbsp of Dark Chocolate Dreams peanut butter

The Dark Chocolate Dreams made the smoothie. (If you haven't tried it, you absolutely HAVE to. It's addicting.)

In other news, I signed up for my first 5K...Walk. I'm super excited!

Sinusitis: round 2...and other things

...hopefully this is the last round!! Sinus infections are no bueno.

I finished the original antibiotic, but I was still feeling sick. So my doctor put me on a stronger antibiotic for another week. I am hoping and praying that this one works, especially since classes start back up in under a week!! I'm taking 16 (!!) credit hours this semester. I don't have time to be sick!!

Despite not feeling that great, I have managed to exercise a little. (Thanks ExerciseTV.) These are the 2 workouts I've been doing the most...

You put WHAT in a smoothie?

If you look close enough, you might see some little green dots in my latest smoothie. That is broccoli.

Apparently sinus infections make me more smoothie-inventive? Haha.

Before you start "EWWW"ing all over the place...you cannot taste the broccoli. At all. (Well, I actually like broccoli, so it wouldn't be a problem for me if I could. But for the rest of you, who may or may not like broccoli...trust me, you cannot taste it.)

What did I put in this smoothie?

1/2 banana
1/2-1 cup frozen strawberries
5-8 frozen broccoli "trees"
1/2-1 cup milk
1/2 cup vanilla frozen yogurt

I didn't exactly measure, so all those are estimates.

Wednesday, January 5, 2011

Two things I learned about dating in 2010.

Actually, I learned a lot about dating in 2010. The 2 I picked may sound really, really obvious, but I personaly think they are still worth stating.

  • Guys: Respect your girl's beliefs.
If your girlfriend (or the girl you would like to make your girlfriend) has a different view on something than you do, hear her out! Why does she believe that? What drew her to the conclusion that caused her to form that belief? Don't dump or ignore her because of a difference of opinion. Listen to her reasoning behind it. Who knows? You find that you may agree!
**The key word here is RESPECT. Don't force her to change her mind or do something she doesn't want to.**
  • Girls: If the guy won't respect your beliefs, find one who will.
I have some experience in this area. I'm a TLW kind of girl. (10 points if you recognize the acronym! ;) ) Not all guys think that being TLW is a good thing, which I didn't fully realize until 2010.
If the guy is pressuring you to change your beliefs or do something that you don't want to, tell him NO and drop him as fast as you can. (Yep, I had to do this.)
